CPCU Society Leadership Council Names 2020 President, President-Elect, and New Members

MALVERN, Pa., January 29, 2020—The Institutes CPCU Society welcomed Thomas E. Woods, CPCU as its 2020 Leadership Council president, and Sharon A. Koches, CPCU, RPLU, AAI, as president-elect, as well as three new members. Each assumed the new role on January 1.

“We are excited to welcome our new leadership team and to work with them to serve our members over the rest of their terms,” said Valerie J. Cammiso, CAE, executive director of the CPCU Society. “We thank these leaders for sharing their time and professional expertise with the CPCU Society and for living our values every day.”

Woods is assistant vice president of underwriting operations for USAA Property and Casualty Company. Since receiving his CPCU designation in 1994, he has served the CPCU Society in both local chapter positions and at the society level, including as Pikes Peak Chapter president, on the Board of Governors and the Leadership Council.

Koches is founder and CEO of Managing Performance, LLC, providing P&C consulting and human capital development solutions for insurance companies and their agency distribution networks. Her areas of expertise include independent agency operations, large account alternative market underwriting, insurance association management, and training. Koches holds the CPCU, RPLU, AAI, AU, and ITP designations and has taught numerous Institutes and other insurance courses. She is a member of the Eastern North Carolina CPCU Society Chapter, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and SITE.

The CPCU Society Leadership Council is responsible for defining policies and monitoring administration for the CPCU Society. It includes elected officers, elected and appointed council members, and ex-officio members. These are this year’s newly appointed members:

  • Anthony E. Fienberg, CPCU, ARe, RPLU, is founder and CEO of Chance Financial, a federated group of insurance-related brands and companies. He has been active in the CPCU Society at all levels, having co-founded the European CPCU Society Chapter and served as chairman of the International Insurance Interest Group. He holds the CPCU, ARe, RPLU, and ARM designations and teaches two separate courses on underwriting at local colleges.

  • Susan Golla, CPCU, ARM, CRM, is a vice president and marketing account executive for McGriff, Seibels & Williams, Inc. She has held a property-casualty license for over 30 years, is a licensed risk manager in the state of Texas, and is active at all levels of CPCU Society leadership. Golla also teaches CPCU® and ARM™ classes, receiving the 2018 Richard A. Gerrond Award for supporting others’ educational endeavors.

  • Roy E. Wright is president and CEO of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). He previously served as chief executive of the National Flood Insurance Program at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and led the agency’s Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration. Prior to joining FEMA in 2007, Wright worked in public and private sector roles with Coray Gurnitz Strategy Consulting and the U.S. Department of the Interior.
