Why was the CPCU Collegiate Studies program updated?
The CPCU Collegiate Studies program received an update based on feedback from risk management and insurance professors. Through collaborative efforts and focus groups with educators, we've tailored the curriculum to better suit today's college-level students, acknowledging the distinct needs of those new to risk management and insurance. Insights from these professionals were integral in shaping the content of the updated program.

Did the requirements for completing CPCU change?
CPCU still requires 8 courses and 8 exams. The updated CPCU designation completion path includes:
- 5 core courses
- 2 courses in either personal or commercial lines
- 1 elective
- Ethics 311 and matriculation

How do the updates impact my course instruction?
As an instructor, your course syllabi and lecture slides will likely need to be updated to reflect the new course materials, which will be available for you to demo by the end of March, 2024. If you'd like demo access to the course materials when it becomes available, please contact Collegiate.Studies@TheInstitutes.org and indicate which course you'd like access to.

How are the courses covering property and liability curriculum changing?
As part of the CPCU Collegiate Studies program update, we're combining property and liability curriculum into one course for both commercial and personal lines. This update, along with other changes made to the program, is based on feedback from risk management and insurance professors.
- The previous courses for commercial property and liability are now combined into one course, CPCU 551: Commercial Insurance. Students who have taken the retiring courses will receive credit for the new course.
- The previous courses for personal property and liability are now combined into one course, CPCU 555: Personal Insurance and Financial Planning. Students who have taken the retiring courses will receive credit for the new course.

Do CPCU course waivers still apply for my students?
Yes. You can direct students to apply for course waivers on our collegiate studies resources page.

When will new course materials be available to demo?
New course materials will be available for you to demo by the end of March, 2024. These new materials should replace retiring course materials by Fall 2024 (or earlier). If you'd like demo access to the course materials when it becomes available, please contact Collegiate.Studies@TheInstitutes.org and indicate which course you'd like access to.
Retiring course materials will no longer be available for purchase after September 30, 2024. If you're unable to update your syllabi and slides in the timeframe indicated above, let us know and we will collaborate with you to reach a solution.

What is the format for the new course materials?
The new course materials are available in both online and textbook formats. We encourage the use of online course materials as it provides an enhanced user experience for the modern learner.

What is the cost for the new course materials? Is bulk pricing available?
The online course materials or textbook can be purchased for $79 each. Bulk pricing is available on orders of 50 issues or more of the same course. You may combine textbooks and online courses (for the same course) to reach 50 copies. Please contact Collegiate.Studies@TheInstitutes.org for details.

Has the pricing changed for ARM and CPCU elective courses?
For ARM and CPCU elective courses (AIC 300, AIDA 181, ARe 321, AU 60, Cyber 301) there are no changes to the pricing model. The pricing for these course materials is $80 each for non-custom textbooks and 50% off online courses.

How long will the updated course materials be good for?
The Institutes agree not to update/change content for our CPCU collegiate studies courses for a minimum of 3 years. The earliest change would occur for the Fall 2027 semester.

How long can I continue to use the current course materials?
Beginning in Fall 2024, retiring course materials should no longer be used. Retiring course materials will no longer be available for purchase after September 30, 2024. If you're unable to update your syllabi and slides in the timeframe indicated above, let us know and we will collaborate with you to reach a solution.

Do I need to submit a new syllabus to The Institutes for course waiver approval?
Yes. We ask that you please submit your syllabi for CPCU courses you teach here no later than June 30, 2024. Even if you are teaching a previously approved course, we request that you submit your syllabus.
